It’s a New Year! A brand new start. You made your New Year’s resolution. Fast forward to mid- February, you probably already lost your resolve to stick to the resolution. This is generally because the resolution was too difficult or not planned out enough to achieve it.
So instead of a resolution this year, try a new approach. Create a sustainable healthy habit.
In order to do so, create small, reasonable goals. Once you have identified the goals, write down the specific actions you’ll take in order to achieve it.
Shift your mindset. Creating a healthy habit for a healthy lifestyle does not have to be difficult. According to the National Institute of Health, even small changes in your diet, lifestyle, and physical activity can reduce your risk for certain diseases and improve your overall health.
Don’t get discouraged. Think about the long game. Some researchers say it takes 21 days to build a habit, while others state it takes 66 days. Since each habit and individual is different, the length of time really varies for each person.
The below are 5 healthy habit ideas for a healthier 2020!
1. Drink More Water: If you feel thirsty you are probably already dehydrated. Drink a glass first thing in the morning. Keep a glass of water by your nightstand. Use an App!
2. Get more sleep: The National Institute of Health, deficiency is also linked to chronic health problems. Make sure you get quality sleep and enough of it.
3. Plan your meals: Planning your meals does take some time, but if you have healthy items prepared you might be less inclined to reach for the junk food and make unhealthy food choices.
4. Stop drinking soda: Ditch the sugary beverage. It’s full of chemicals and has no nutritional value. Opt for water instead or an herbal tea.
5. Skip the fancy coffee: Lattes or other coffee-house specialty drinks are great; however, they can be caloric and have a lot of hidden sugars. Opt for plain coffee instead and control what you put in it.
Keep in mind that once the healthy habit is formed, it will eventually become a part of your everyday routine and a part of your lifestyle.
Here’s to a healthy and happy New Year! Cheers!
