Can you believe it’s Thanksgiving already? It’s easy to indulge in all the delicious food that’s at the table. Here are 5 easy ways to make healthy choices at Thanksgiving.
1. Fill your plate with lean nutrient-dense foods. Choose white meat turkey without the skin. Limit the amount of gravy or better yet, skip it altogether.
2. Opt for vegetables. Make them the star of your plate. However, be careful of traps. For example, watch out for the marshmallows and extra sugar on the sweet potato pie.
3. Limit sodium intake. Don’t add additional salt. This can make you retain water and feel bloated. Assume the food well prepared and seasoned properly.
4. Limit sugar intake. Most likely there will be wine at your Thanksgiving. Be aware of how much you are consuming. Drink water in between. Don’t go crazy with desserts.
5. Be mindful of the amount of food you are eating. Check out all the options available to you before you put the food on your plate.
Be mindful about what you are eating as the holiday season is upon us with holiday parties and family gatherings. Thanksgiving is about spending time with your family and friends and should be enjoyable. If you do happen to eat more than you intended to during Thanksgiving, don't beat yourself up. Get back on track with eating healthy as soon as you can.
